Physical Traits

Male is bright jewel-blue with orange breast above its white belly.  Female is a drab brown that helps to camouflage them during nesting.  This is important since they nest in shrubs near the ground. 

Habitat

They live in grassy, weedy areas near brush or trees.

States and Regions Found

They winter on the Pacific coast of Mexico and migrate to their breeding grounds in western Dakotas and western Nebraska to the Pacific Coast.
