Physical Traits: The white-tailed deer is the most widely distributed deer in North America. Its color changes based on the season. It is tan or brown in the summer and grayish brown in winter. The stomach and underside of its tail is white. Males weigh between 150 and 300 pounds and will sport antlers. Females are smaller and weigh between 90 and 200 pounds.

Habitat: The white-tailed deer lives in wooded or dense brush areas. As ongoing land development displaces deer from their natural habitats, they are coexisting in suburban settings.

Recommended Feeder: Platform Feeder

Feeder Tips: We suggest placing a platform feeder at ground level. Be sure to place the feeder on a platform that allows air to circulate under the feeder. You will also want to secure it to the platform to prevent tipping from larger mammals that will be attracted to the food in the feeder.

States and Regions Found: Whitetail deer inhabit most of southern Canada and all of the mainland United States with the exception of two or three states in the west.
