Carolina Chickadee

Physical Traits

The Carolina Chickadee is identified with its black cap and throat and its stark white cheeks. It’s often confused with the Black-Capped Chickadee. The Carolina Chickadee has white edges on its wing feathers and a rougher bib. It has four notes in its sound “Fee bee fee bay”.

Habitat

It nests in holes of dead trees. They are in woodlands and wooded suburbs. They often hang from branches to feed on insects, seeds and berries.

Chickadees are sure-footed and need no perches. Hang your feeder in or near a tree, and use a squirrel guard because sunflower seeds and nuts are squirrels’ favorites too.
