Rufous-sided Towhee
Physical Traits: This bird has a black head and back, red eyes, rusty sides, white wings and tail patches; females are browner; sometimes called “ground robin.” Their song is “Drink your teeeee!” Habitat: A large member of the Sparrow family, towhees build loose cup-like nests on the ground. They are always near cover, scratching through leaves looking for seed. Recommended Feeder: Platform Feeder Feeder Tips: Place the platform feeder in a protected area that offers the safety of trees or shrubs. The Rufous-sided Towhee will be present near your feeder, feeding on dropped seeds. States and Regions Found: They are found in Southern Canada, throughout the United States, and in northern Mexico.
