Purple Finches are often confused with the House Finch who has more streaking, a different color of red, and a different face pattern. Habitat: The Purple Finch prefers a conifer forest, but can be found in suburban areas, orchards and deciduous forests. Cup shaped nests are made of grass, bark and twigs and placed on a high branch. Recommended Feeder: Lyric Finch Feeder Feeder Tips: Hang a Lyric Finch Feeder from a branch. The small openings and short perches make an ideal feeding environment for the Purple Finch.
